Whistlejacket wins

We won! Or at least our Alter Ego won the July Stakes at Newmarket.

That was over 1200m for 2yo c&g with 6 runners and while the other runners looked like they were trying to box in Whistlejacket he pushed through and despite drifting to the left was too powerful and finished 1 ¾ lengths over the rest.  Billboard Star finished second and Aomori City not disgraced in third.

The other G2 the Princess of Wales's Stakes went to our tip Giavallotto who will now head to the Irish St Leger.  Second home was Arrest with favourite Hamish back in fourth following a sluggish start.

Earlier Ancient Wisdom showed his true colours in winning the Bahrain Trophy with Royal Supreme the second home in a 4-horse race.

Friday will see the running of the Duchess of Cambridge G2 over 1200m for the 2yo fillies with 11 runners.  Heavens Gate is on 13/8 after running third in the Albany for O'Brien-Moore.  She's by Churchill.  Mountain Breeze was the fourth in that race but quite a bit further back.  She's by Lope de Vega and Appleby-Buick for Godolphin.  Tales of the Heart is by Mehmas and while no doubt she will be a stronger horse next season she has shown promise and 10/1 tempts us – Ralph Beckett and Rossa Ryan.

The Falmouth is G2 over 1600m for f&m and it's a toss-up between Porta Fortuna 5/4 and Running Lion 11/4.  We love both horses dearly and honestly cannot separate them here.  Later betting may help.

Saturday it's the Superlative over 1400m for the 2yos with 9 to win and here Ancient Truth will be trying to emulate his stable mate Ancient Wisdom.  He's by Dubawi and on 11/8.  We rather like The Parthenon here on 5/1 for O'Brien-Moore – another promising son of Kingman,  And Pentle Bay is also promising on 8/1 for Boughey-Loughnane.
