Saturday at Del Mar and Saratoga

Del Mar hosted the Clement L Hirsch G1

Not sure what happened here but the fields we got weren't for that race.  However the result saw Baffert's Adare Manor 3/5 favourite do what a favourite should do and won from Scylla and Flying Connection.

Saratoga saw another major confusion as the two big turf races the Derby Invitational and the Troy have been moved to the following Saturday (10th August) as the rain affected Turf course was not considered safe.  We can't imagine it being any worse than what the European horses have encountered but it may be that there were pools of water and unsafe areas.  Appleby has said already that Mischief Magic won't go to the Troy next weekend and we don't know about the other internationals at this stage.

The two top races left were the Test and the Whitney.  The Test only had 5 runners and it was pretty easy for Ways and Means to win and Emery to come second.

The Whitney was a proper race but not without its upsets.  The sloppy track had on another occasion been to the dislike of Arthur's Ride but not this time as the handsome grey took charge of the race and won from Crupi and Post Time.  Baffert said after the race that favourite National Treasure "didn't feel like racing" and "didn't bring his A game" but stopped short of blaming the track which was very polite of him but probably the real reason for NT's poor showing.
