Timeform Preview - Coonabarabran October 24

Brilliant Poet will look to continue his strong form when lining up in the $45,000 Coonabarabran Cup (1600m) today.

The Leon Davies-trained runner produced a terrific effort to finish runner up at Coonamble over the mile last time out following a narrow win at Gilgandra two starts back.

Down in the weights again, apprentice jockey Kaylee Kirkwood remains on board and if he runs up to his last start effort he will be hard to beat in this field.

From barrier 5 would expect Brilliant Poet to push forward again and settle on the speed and he will take plenty of running down.

The main danger appears to be Playing Game who has been racing in terrific form of late and comes out of the same race at Coonamble when hitting the line strongly for fourth.

Appears to do her best racing over the mile winning four of eight and has drawn to get a good run off the pace from barrier 4 today.

Greg Ryan remains on board and with good wins at Warwick Farm and Narromine earlier in the preparation she looks to have strong claims in this.

Brilliant Poet certainly gets an advantage at the weights again today but based on recent form Playing Game will be right in the mix again and these two should be fighting out the finish.

Southern Orders looks the best of the rest following a solid win at Tamworth over the mile last start but she will find this a tougher task today.

Recent form has been very consistent and she is likely to roll forward from the wide draw and put herself in the race.

Needs to show some improvement to mix it with the top couple of chances but she is likely to be thereabouts and can make her way into the placings.

Topmast has been mixing his form in recent times but from the good draw if he can run up to his best form he could fill one of the minor placings with a bit of luck.
