Belesron can build upon a strong first up effort at Moe on Monday in The Win Network Handicap (1200m).
The Peter Moody-trained galloper resumed at Mornington late last month where he recorded a respectable sixth.
He was settled handy by jockey Luke Nolen and while the three-year-old loomed large, just got tired late and subsequently recorded a close sixth.
Belesron will have no doubt taken fitness from the outing and profiles as the top elect in Monday’s Win Network Handicap (1200m).
The race features other promising types outside of Belesron however the Choisir gelding looks to have the greatest sense of timing about him.
His first up outing at Mornington yielded a Timeform rating of 81, solid in its own right however still three pounds shy of a master figure yielded on debut when saluting at Murtoa last October.
Belesron has since been gelded which should also work to his favour this preparation.
Connections will see a more mature, focused galloper this campaign who as soon as Monday should build upon his current master rating.
Under the guidance of Luke Nolen, Belesron should get a charmed run from barrier 3 either attempting to make all or settling handy.
The rail being out 6m should favour Belesron’s racing style along with the short Moe straight.
It looks Belesron’s race for the taking although there are a pair of rivals who can at least keep things sporting.
The first is Essential Element.
The Sean Buckley-raced colt has already been well tried in morning markets as he faces the easiest assignment of his career since a maiden win at Sale.
Connections then threw the colt into stakes company where he didn’t quite measure up.
Essential Element’s campaign culminated with a poor showing at Caulfield and afterwards his trainer suggested he would be gelded and spelled.
He has returned to racing still as a colt so make of that what you will.
The three-year-old’s best results during his maiden prep were yielded when ridden positively so expect him to take up a forward position from an inside draw.
Tannaset rounds out a trio of three-year-olds who between them look to have the race in their keeping.
The Tony Noonan-trained filly embarked on a short but sweet maiden preparation late last year which culminated with a maiden success at Benalla.
She has since been given time to mature and from barrier six can be tracking the likes of Essential Element and Belesron.
Monday’s Win Network Handicap (1200m) profiles as an above average event compared to the quality an off season Ratings 64 in country Victoria would usually attract.
While short on overall depth, there is enough quality in the form of Essential Element and Tannaset to ensure Belesron goes around at backable odds.
Each of the three should enjoy solid winter preparations however it is Belesron who has the greatest sense of timing about him at Moe on Monday.
