Punters On Edge At Coonamble

In-form apprentice Winona Costin can continue her brilliant recent run in the Benchmark 70 Handicap (1400m) at Coonamble this afternoon aboard Slate On Edge.

Winona Costin has been in excellent form Picture: Racing and Sports

The talented rider has gone to a new level this year and jumps on another handy galloper today, a four-year-old Zariz gelding chasing his third win from four starts.

Slate On Edge has hit career-best form this time in, leading all the way most recently for a win in provincial grade over the mile at Gosford.

He quickened from 600m and kept going right to the line in a very impressive performance.

The run earned a weight-adjusted Timeform figure of 84, which looks enough to win this race today.

He also produced a figure of 84 the run prior, when second over a mile at Tamworth, and that run followed a solid win over this trip at Wellington back in January.

Slate On Edge only carries half a kilogram extra in this one with Costin’s 1.5kg claim factored in and he looks to set the standard.

Stick with him to grab another win here.

Jellybean Jack should give the top pick something to think about after collecting two straight wins at Mudgee in easier grade.

He led all the way there last time in Benchmark 60 grade over this trip and was eased down late on to finish 1.5L clear.

The run earned a weight-adjusted figure of 86, and he’s another one who’s stumbled across some career-best form this time in.

This trip looks to be his best and down to this trip he has to be considered.

Don’t be surprised if he takes up the running, with Slate On Edge following him every step of the way.

It should be a tense battle.

Ten To Zero looks next best after finishing second to Jellybean Jack most recently at Mudgee, although he will need to improve if he’s to win this.
