Anthony Cummings takes a strong team to Hawkesbury on Thursday which includes well bred gelding Northern Jewel.
Northern Jewel lines up in the TAB Wentworthville Maiden Plate on Thursday and the event clearly looks the easiest assignment of his career to date.
The Gooree-owned gelding has done all of his racing in metropolitan company and has even performed well at stakes level having finished fourth in the Henry Bucks Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) last March.
Northern Jewel returned a Timeform figure of 108 on that occasion and while having run nowhere near this figure in his five other raceday outings, the gelding still rates highly amongst this field.
He lines up in this contest third run from a spell and after showing good improvement last start when a close fourth on the Randwick Kensington track.
Not beaten far, the run returned a Timeform figure of 82.
The gelding should be fitter again third run from a spell and will appreciate rising to the 1400m on offer here.
He appears well suited under the set weight conditions of this maiden and has come close to claiming that first career win for a while now.
While drawn wide, expect Blake Shinn to negate the barrier by rolling forward on the gelding and be prominent throughout.
Northern Jewel is clearly the one to beat and outside of Fastcar, Snippets Land and Amiconi Originale, it is hard to see anything else in this field stand in his way.
Fastcar showed good improvement last start on the Kensington track and will be fitter again third run from a spell.
The son of Sebring is still yet to produce his best this campaign but a master Timeform figure of 90 was recorded when a half length second at Hawkesbury last campaign.
Snippets Land was prominent throughout last start when second on the Randwick Kensington track and in fact finished marginally ahead of Fastcar.
Fastcar was attacking the line in better fashion on that occasion so heading into this contest looks poised to turn the tables.
Choisir gelding Amiconi Originale is an interesting runner.
The Tony McEvoy-trained runner showed promise during a two start maiden campaign in Adelaide and the stable doesn’t transfer runners to their Hawkesbury stable for nothing.
He resumes after a pair of trials and while fitness still must remain a query resuming over 1400m, a market watch is strongly advised.
A few promising sorts line up in Thursday’s TAB Wentworthville Maiden Plate (1400m) who all appear capable of shedding their maiden status in the not too distant future.
It is Northern Jewel though who has the greatest sense of timing about him and should take beating in the first leg of the Hawkesbury quaddie.
