Heysen Gets The Swing At Goulburn

A sizeable weight swing should be enough to see Heysen turn the tables on Faust at Goulburn in the Fred Cooper Cup.

The Wayne Carroll-trained gelding last start ran fourth behind Faust at Goulburn 18 days ago over this distance.

Faust had his measure on that occasion however there is enough to suggest Heysen can turn the tables in Thursday’s Benchmark 65 Fred Cooper Cup (1600m).

The Excellent Art four-year-old settled a long way back on that occasion and was working home well late behind Faust who had all of the favours up front.

1 ¾ quarter lengths split the pair but a sizeable weight swing in Heysen’s favour should make things much more sporting at Goulburn on Thursday.

Heysen last start met Faust 2.5kg better at the weights however on Thursday carries 6kg less than Faust.

This is in part to the addition of apprentice Brodie Loy who is enjoying an excellent season to date and has a good record at Goulburn.

Heysen will settle back in the field and should be charging home late.

Faust heads into the Fred Cooper Cup as favourite and deservedly so after saluting here last start.

The Danny Williams-trained gelding rises in the weights however still warrants plenty of respect.

He should prove hard to beat however Faust and Heysen do rate closer than what the market at this stage suggests.

Last start the pair were vying for favouritism here yet 18 days later despite a noticeable weight swing, Heysen is currently quoted at each way odds.

The market for the Fred Cooper Cup suggests it is an open affair however on paper the only other pair of runners who on latest form deserve a mention are Setta Rocks and Flaming Star.

Setta Rocks resumed nicely with a third at Kembla Grange last start.

The Diane Poidevin-Laine-trained runner wasn’t far off making all on that occasion and will have no doubt taken benefit from the run.

A 3kg claim courtesy of Jamie Innes brings her in nicely at the weights and expect Setta Rocks to be prominent throughout.

Flaming Star produced an eye catcher on resuming at Canberra last start and will strip fitter for the outing.

While a bit of a non winner with just three successes from 29 starts, Flaming Star does possess a further 12 placings.

Three of those have come in the four-year-olds three previous visits to Goulburn and seeing him further build upon that record would not surprise here.

Overall though, take the each way odds on offer about Heysen in the Fred Cooper Cup knowing he is a genuine chance of turning the tables on last start nemesis Faust.
