Great Game has found one better in each of three starts to this point in his short career but today looks to be the day for him as he steps out at Seymour in the Centrebet Best Tote Maiden Plate (1300m) today.
Great Game was put away for a spell following a sound debut effort on heavy going back in September and after a three month spell resumed at Moonee Valley in a maiden with a bit of depth.
There he settled back of midfield, caught wide, but made a strong run off the bend to finish second, beaten just over a length by promising debut winner You’re So Good.
That race produced strong figures and third and fourth stepped out and won their next starts, the fourth placed Perfect Parma particularly impressive winning by a space at Ballarat.
Great Game headed to Sydney where he took on another metro maiden, this time at Rosehill at their New Years Day meeting.
Up to 1350m there he was able to settle closer to the speed, hitting the front on straightening, but picked off late by Smart Moochi. The third placed Kristy Lee has since stepped out to win, and win well, at Canterbury, strengthening the form.
Great Game looks poised now third up to break through and win today.
The danger looks to be the David Bourne trained Bessano who resumes from a spell with the in-form Glen Boss aboard.
Bessano made his debut in October when beaten less than a length at Echuca. The effort was good and saw him looking well placed next time out at Horsham but he ran below that form there and was tipped out for a spell.
He’s likely to have come on over his break and a recent trial win suggested that he has come back in good order. Expecting him to run well here.
Two others resuming, Freddie Two Shoes[n] and In His Own Time, have both shown enough in short careers to date to suggest that they could return a cheque here and are two to keep under notice for those playing the multiples.
Would be wary of any move for the Hope Yards debutate, [n]Sin, but it would take an above average debut to knock of Great Game and we would want to be seeing a positive market lead to consider him.
