Promising galloper Guru Bay should prove hard to hold in tonight's Essendon Mazda 55 Second Challenge at Moonee Valley (race 5).
The race series is proving very popular with some great betting races as well, this heat being an RB72 over the 955m where the fastest time recorded throughout the series scoring the trainer a prize of a brand new Mazda.
As always, there is plenty of pace on from the outset but that may held the promising Guru Bay, who resumes from a spell tonight.
The gelding, prepared by Colin and Cindy Alderson, made his debut over 1000m on the all weather at Geelong and after sitting second cruised away with a five length win.
He then headed straight to town over 1000m at Betfair Park Hillside and got back to last in the heavy ground before running on into fourth.
Back to the all weather at Geelong, he led throughout and kept going, scoring a four length win over 1100m before stepping up to 1300m there at his last run.
That was in an RB78 and after drawing wide sat fourth early before looming up and just being edged out when a head second behind Into the Sun.
The gelding has drawn wide tonight but with so much pace on early he might be best ridden quietly and allowed to run on.
By race five we'll know if that's possible.
Guru Bay looks a promising type who you could imagine storming home over the top of these fresh.
Speedy mare Exceed And Excite is going for her fourth straight win so it's hard to knock her chances.
The Leon Corstens trained mare won on the all weather three back in a Class 1 over 1000m then over the same trip at Bendigo in an RB62.
Last start was over 1009m at Seymour where she raced in an RB68 and won again, this time by almost three lengths.
In all three wins she has led throughout and from gate two there's little doubt she'll be there on the speed in this tougher race.
She rises in weight as well which won't make it easy but in career best form will take catching.
Louisville Dancer will be camped off the speed and after a good recent trial should be powering home fresh.
The lightly raced mare won her first two starts over 1000m then was runner up over 1300m at Bendigo.
Last start, over 1400m at Betfair Park Hillside, she settled midfield but in the heavy ground could only hold her own, finishing sixth.
She went for a spell but has trialled well leading into this.
From barrier eight she'll be camped off the speed and with the claim for apprentice rider Jack Hill she will carry just 52kg.
Arrived has a very honest fresh up record and after she bolted in at a recent trial looks on target for a big run fresh.
