Cauthen's Power Hard To Withstand At Gosford

Progressive three-year-old Cauthen's Power can take the next step at Gosford this afternoon, when set to contest the final event.

Trained by Chris Waller, the son of Road To Rock has displayed good ability, having broken through for his maiden victory at Newcastle last start.

Ridden patiently by Josh Parr, Cauthen's Power proved too strong late in the piece and notably beat home three subsequent winners.

Using Timeform ratings he improved six pounds on his debut performance and can springboard off that mark this afternoon.

Unseen in over four weeks, the three-year-old has trialled well at Warwick Farm and gives the impression the step up to the mile will suit.

Leading rider Tye Angland links aboard for the first time and overall is striking at just shy of 20 per cent with the Chris Waller stable.

From the awkward draw, Cauthen's Power is likely to settle just off midfield, with Our Catch, Spinning Gold, Here Comes The Sun and Barney Rubble the likely front runners.

It's never an easy task giving weight away to the older horses, however Cauthen's Power is clearly heading in the right direction and should prove hard to beat.

The John O'Shea trained Dubrovnik proved quite disappointing at Canberra last start, however she is worth another chance with the blinkers back on.

Her performance to salute at Goulburn two back leaves her open to good improvement and hard to ignore the engagement of James McDonald.

Only lightly raced, she is a filly with good ability and has to be respected.

The Wayne Wilkes trained Rinn Pierre won well at Grafton last start and if able to repeat that level of performance, she shapes as one of the main hopes.

In just her second attempt at the mile she recorded a new career peak and cannot be taken lightly from the favourable draw.

Of the rest expecting sharp improvement from the Gai Waterhouse trained Our Catch, after something clearly went amiss at Kembla Grange.

She is quite simply better than that and comes right into contention on best form.

In four attempts at the mile, she has placed in three and is expected to be in this for a long way.

Good luck and happy punting.
