Prince Mayted will relish the heavy track when stepping out in the Wauchope Stock/Estate Agent Class 1 Handicap (1206m) at Port Macquarie today.
The Colt Prosser-trained three-year-old gelding resumed with a second placing over 900m at Newcastle before winning on a heavy track at Taree last start and looks well placed to go on with it here.
Prince Mayted also finished a close second on a heavy track at Newcastle last preparation and from barrier 9 should go forward today and take plenty of beating.
Peter Graham who has ridden the horse on all five occasions remains on board and the son of May’haab looks very well placed in this company having finished no worse than second from five career outings.
The only concern appears to be the 1200m where he Is untried but he did kick clear over the final stages last start at Taree and is certainly open to improvement here third up.
Harvard Graduate looks the main danger but has managed just the one win in 14 outings which came almost a year ago.
Formerly with the Jason Warren stable in Victoria, the four-year-old gelding has had the two starts for his new yard, running a close second at Coffs Harbour before over-racing when fourth on a heavy track at Taree last start.
That has been the only time the son of Exceed And Excel has been on a heavy track, but on best form certainly looks a top chance in this.
Remos also rates a mention having resumed well enough when fifth at Taree last start.
Not the best record when second up previously but has won on a heavy track previously and should get a good run from the inside draw.
Leading country jockey Robert Thompson remains on board and he certainly looks right up to fighting out the finish here on best form.
These look the main chances of the race with next best Tara Ironwood, however I suspect the heavy track will give him plenty of problems.
The four-year-old gelding is unplaced from five runs on slow-heavy tracks and place looks best based on that record.
