Mick Price's Wilderbeast steps out at Seymour today in a heat of the Silver Bowl Series, and it's a heat he looks up to winning.
Wilderbeast has been honest this campaign so far without cashing in as yet but he's shown signs that there is more to come from the son of Stravinsky.
A close up effort behind the progressive Rich Jack marked him down as one to win races this campaign and he has done enough in a couple of runs since then to remain under notice.
Last start his run was better than it perhaps reads in the book.
He kicked clear on straightening at Sandown and was only gunned down late in the piece, only beaten a couple of lengths on the line in a race that has subsequently stood up with a couple of winners and a handful of others "running to form" through the event.
30 days is plenty of time for Wilderbeast to get over that run and come on for this one, something that the stable are more than adept at doing.
Mick Price's yard runs at a strike-rate of around 18% but with runners off a break between 30-60 days that rate leaps to 28%.
It's clearly something the yard has a good habit of doing and something that should be watched for.
Another promising stat in favour of Wilderbeast is the stable's record at Seymour where they turn out winners at 21% against that overall figure of 18%.
It's a happy hunting ground and so may it continue today.
Dangers come in the form of Blendwell, as last start winner for the Moody yard with plenty of upside, David Hayes' Rainbow Gold, Letsgetsideways and El Capo.
Moody is another that runs hot at Seymour, his strike-rate of 25% given more substance by the fact that he trains at a positive POT at the course.
That leaves Blendwell coming here with a good profile to go along with the good talent he put on display when winning by a lazy seven lengths last time, and with that combo in hand he must be feared.
With our eyes on strike-rates at the course Letsgetsideways must come under notice with the Danny O'Brien yard another with a good record at Seymour.
O'Brien's 22% strike-rate at Seymour is well up on his overall rate of 16% and his POT of -2.9% suggests that they aren't necessarily over-bet either.
