The Don Ryan-trained gelding is building an impressive record during his short career to date and showed he has returned in excellent order this preparation with an easy win on resuming at Dubbo.

Our Canny Boy’s latest victory yielded a new peak Timeform figure of 91, a figure if replicated or improved on should see him hard to beat in the Coolmore NMW Handicap (1000m).

Signs are positive for the Canny Lad gelding going into the event.

The five-year-old has worked through his grades in the country having won six of seven career starts.

Our Canny Boy appeared to record his latest win with a bit up his sleeve and is expected to be fitter for the run.

Leading country hoop Greg Ryan joining him at Randwick is another positive who has partnered the lightly raced type at each of his seven starts.

Trainer Don Ryan has found a very winnable race for the gelding’s first foray into the city, up against just six horses after the scratching of Peter Snowden-trained Shiso.

His main danger appears to be the Terry Robinson-trained Elusive Lad.

Elusive Lad has also come back this campaign in good order.

The seven-year-old won on resuming at Moruya before recording a very gallant second at Kembla Grange last start.

Each run was assessed at 84, seven pounds below Our Canny Boy’s first up performance awarded a Timeform figure of 91.

With 3.5kg off Our Canny Boy, if the pair run to their last start figures it could make for a very close finish.

While Our Canny Boy could be set to improve second up, Elusive Lad might just be capable of the same fitter once again third run back from a spell.

The addition of Hugh Bowman is also expected to enhance his chances.

General Sherman appears the last of three runners who can record their first metropolitan win in the Coolmore NMW Handicap at Randwick today.

The Garry White-trained gelding won well on resuming at Hawkesbury and tried hard under a big impost to finish third in a similar affair last start.

General Sherman drops sharply in weight for this which is offset further by the 3kg claim of Shaun Guymer.

His first up Timeform figure of 85 should be the rating used in assessing his chances at Randwick today.

Of the six horse field in the Coolmore NMW Handicap (1000m) at Randwick today, three possess winning claims.

While General Sherman and Elusive Lad where each good when placing in their respective events last start, Our Canny Boy’s two length win on resuming particularly caught the eye – enough to think he will go on with the job at Randwick today.
