Unai Emery grades Aston Villa's transfer window

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has declared himself "very happy" with his club's business in the summer transfer window.

Villa have been busy in the market since securing a Champions League place for the first time since 1983 by finishing fourth in the Premier League last season.

They have spent just over £138million on seven new players, including Amadou Onana from Everton for £50m and Ian Maatsen from Chelsea for £37.5m.

Around £121m from outgoings has offset that outlay, with Moussa Diaby (to Al-Ittihad for £50.5m) and Douglas Luiz (to Juventus for £42.4m) among seven players who have been sold for fees.

Emery told a press conference: "Yes, very happy because we did what we planned at the beginning and the squad we have now, with some very important players, like Tyrone Mings and (Boubacar) Kamara, (Emiliano) Buendia, they are coming back progressively."

All three players are working their way back from serious knee injuries. Mings and Buendia missed the whole of last season, while France midfielder Kamara has been sidelined since February.

"Not yet Kamara and Mings," Emery said. "But they are getting better and are very important players for us.

"Last year Jacob Ramsey didn't play consistently and hopefully this year he's going to play consistently during the season, with the level he was showing us before and even increasing his level.

"With other players we have added in the squad this year, I'm very happy."

Thursday's revamped Champions League draw saw Villa handed fixtures against Bayern Munich, Celtic, Bologna, Young Boys, Leipzig, Monaco and Club Brugge in a newly created league phase.

Emery, whose side play at Leicester in the Premier League on Saturday, said: "We are motivated. We are going to enjoy together (with our fans) playing again in the Champions League.

"But if we want to play next year in Champions League, we have to be consistent and performing in the Premier League.

"To be successful like we were last year, of course it's going to be difficult. But we are very motivated and we know our way – be intelligent, working hard always and be very demanding, more than last year."

Villa will be without Matty Cash at Leicester after he was ruled out for up to four weeks due to a hamstring injury sustained in last week's home defeat to Arsenal.

Serbian teenager Kosta Nedeljkovic could make his first start in Cash's absence, while fellow defender Diego Carlos is also sidelined due to a minor injury.
