Singapore Racing - Weekend Review 18th & 20th May

Royal Ruler has returned in terrific order from injury with a win in the Kranji Stakes B (1100m) in Singapore on Sunday.

The Ricardo Le Grange-trained runner was able to find himself up on the speed from the wide draw and proved too strong for his rivals over the concluding stages to run out a half length winner over Al Green in second with Kingsman third.

Royal Ruler who has now won nine of his 29 starts returned a new career peak Timeform figure of 95 well above his previous best of 89 achieved in late 2016.

It was quite a remarkable return for the six-year-old gelding who was found to have a fracture to his knee last campaign following three underwhelming runs.

Now back in good order, Royal Ruler should have a nice preparation ahead of him in Stakes company and you would expect he will continue to improve throughout the preparation.

On Friday night Nova Vocal stamped himself as a horse on the rise when winning the Class 4 Non Premier (1200m).

Going straight to the lead from the wide draw, Nova Vocal kicked clear to claim a four length victory over Savage Storm in second with Sun Seeker well back in third.

Having won well on debut, Nova Vocal then went on to finish runner up in a Novice on the quick back up and given a month between runs was able to return to the winners circle in style.

Nova Vocal returned a new career peak Timeform figure of 81, six pounds above his previous best and certainly looks a horse going in the right place.

The three-year-old gelding, who was taking on the older horses could now find himself lining up in the Singapore Guineas (1600m) which would see him over the mile for the first time of his career.

The following race saw the two-year-olds line up in the Nursery Stakes (1000m) where Pennywise was able to secure a handy two and a half length win.

The Argentinian bred horse had trialled well leading into the race and returned a Timeform figure of 77, with Makkem Lad in second and Good Luck Charm third.

Settling up on the speed behind the lead throughout, Pennywise put away her rivals nicely over the concluding stages and is certainly one to keep an eye on going forward.
