Lion To Roar On Debut

Former New Zealand based galloper Lion Wave appears well placed to begin his Singapore career on a winning note, when set to contest the final event this evening.

Previously trained by Mandy and Matt Brown, the son of Buffalo Man displayed good ability in his four career starts, including back to back victories as a juvenile.

Though disappointing at his last start, Lion Wave still rates well for his Singapore debut.

Now under the care of Michael Clements, the three-year-old has trialled well in the lead up, saluting by half a length at the beginning of this month.

Jumping away well, Lion Wave was not pushed early and settled down second, with the Steven Lam trained Bingo pressing forward and opening up a big lead.

Asked to extend passing the 300m, Lion Wave began to reel in Bingo and hit the front passing the 100m.

Allowed to work home under his own steam, all appears in good order for the gelding's debut.

A noted speedster, Lion Wave is likely to take up the running from the inside draw, with Yin Jie, Mastermind and Arrowhead hotly on his heels.

Using Timeform weight adjusted ratings, Lion Wave does possess a class edge on his rivals.

Whether he can run up to his best form, remains to be seen, however he has given the right indications to this point.

Yet to be successful beyond 800m is of some concern, however he was only beaten 2.5L in Listed company over 1000m.

Stepping out for just his fifth start, Lion Wave is still open to further improvement and should prove hard to beat.

The Theo Keiser trained Yin Jie is a long time between wins (509 days) but has returned in good order and shapes as one of the main hopes.

A victor of three of his 16 starts, the son of Gold Centre has placed on a further seven occasions and is rarely far away.

Yin Jie's latest effort saw him stick on well, after being taken on early in the straight.

Beaten just over a length, his performance held plenty of merit and he should look to press forward from the awkward draw.

With the aid of the claim, Yin Jie appears well placed using Timeform weight adjusted ratings and should be right around the mark.

The Michael Freedman trained Arrowhead mixed his form last preparation, but is definitely capable when right.

He has placed fresh previously and has placed in two of five attempts on the polytrack.

Arrowhead's two trials in the lead up have been most encouraging and has drawn to receive all the favours in on the rails.

Using Timeform weight adjusted ratings, he is well placed on best form and looms as a major threat.

Of the rest the Desmond Koh trained Mastermind appears the next best.

Outclassed behind Wimbledon last start, his performance prior was very impressive and he is clearly capable when right.

Likely to roll forward from the good draw, he should give a bold sight.

Good luck and happy punting.
