Noted sire Falvelon, a dual winner of the Doomben10,000, did not have a runner in the 2012 renewal of the G1 event last Saturday but achieved consolation when his son Excellantes enhanced his rising stature as a sprinter with a Listed victory on the program in the Chief De Beers Handicap.

Excellantes, a 4-year-old gelding trained at Eagle Farm by his breeder Robert Heathcote, took his record in a 19 start career to seven wins and six seconds.

Cantantes is one of 68 winners from the 84 starters from only two crops produced at Glen Avon Lodge Stud in Queensland by the prematurely deceased Just Awesome, a brother by Last Tycoon to the dams of top young stallions Casino Prince and Onemorenomore.

Her second, third, fourth and fifth dams were all by sires used at Lyndhurst Stud in Queensland.

Alannon, a good Melbourne sprinter from the Nearctic male line, became a foundation sire at Glenlogan Park Stud but died after only one season.

It resulted in 65 foals, 58 starters, 40 winners of 143 races and over $6.4million.

The principal contributor was Falvelon, who retired to stud after winning 15 races and earning $4,182,974.

At stud he has sired 228 winners (seven SWs, 13 SPs) of 680 races and $14.6 million and has had winners in New Zealand, South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau and Korea.

In Perth Luckygray (Bradbury's Luck) became the second stakes winner last Saturday for a Glenlogan sire when he won the G3 Roma Cup at Belmont Park.

Queensland bred Luckygray is one of the best gallopers up to 1600m in WA, winning eight of 11 starts including the G1 Railway Stakes and two G3s.
