Racing and Sports finds the best-backed runners in early betting on Wednesday’s meeting at Sandown.

Rail: Out 7m Entire Circuit

First race: 1.00pm

Telopea (Race 2) has been a well-supported favourite, firming 20 cents to $2.30. The mare was a strong winner at Bendigo last start, returning a career high rating that is the highest last-start figure in the field. She returns to 1400m, a distance where she has won at three of four attempts.

Tender (Race 4) is the new favourite at $3.40 after being backed in the best part of two points since opening at an each way quote. Based in Sydney with Joe Pride, the mare makes the switch to Melbourne off successive second placings at Canterbury and the money suggests the city change could be a winning move.

Secret Blend (Race 7) opened as favourite and has been steadily backed this morning to a fixed odds quote of $2.60. He isn’t the only horse to be backed in this but he is a popular pick and comes into the event as the top rater and has been within 0.7L of the winner at his past two since his Ballarat win.
