Roughies add value to BIG6 and Quaddie divs

The NSW BIG6 today paid a whopping $215,234 after a couple of roughies destroyed the hopes of most punters.

It was held as a cross-meeting BIG6 on the last races legs at Rosehill and Moonee Valley.

Leg one (at Rosehill) saw Little Surfer Girl salute in a minor upset in the Civic Stakes, while legs two and three had well supported runners Mr Make Believe and Wazn score popular wins.

It was the victories of The Tiger (leg four) and Mutawarath (leg five) which would have hurt most BIG6 players, with each winner scoring at prices of well over $20.

Beyond Pardon's victory in leg six was popular as he began favourite.

The Morphettville Quaddie, in both VIC and NSW TABs, almost paid six figures.

With Silver Moment, Tresette and Akhabrach winning legs one, three and four at big odds, Sweet Talking Guy was the only single figure winner in the Quaddie having won the second leg.

In NSW, it paid $92,680 with a jackpot of nearly $20,000. VIC TAB punters saw the Quaddie return $86,979.90.

Big Bets and movers – Feature races

Sunshine Coast - Caloundra Cup

The winner, Spechenka, was pretty much unwanted in betting, drifting out from $8 to $11.

Most of the money late came for Tinseltown, which opened at $7.00 but started at $4.60 and finished third. Gold In Dubai, which opened at $3.30, drifted significantly in Fixed Odds betting and finished second.

Glasshouse Handicap

Woorim and Mystical Grey fought out the betting with the latter eventually earning favouritism come jump time.

It was Woorim, however, who produced a barnstorming finish to easily claim honours over outsider Meet George and former Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready.

The Big Bets

Woorim ($3,000 @ $5.00, $2,300 @ $5.00, $2,000 @ $5.00)

Mystical Grey ($10,000 @ $1.80 place, $4,400 @ $4.80, $2,200 @ $4.40)

Rosehill - Civic Stakes

Little Surfer Girl had some support, with one bet of $2,000 @ $6.50 and another of $1,500 @ $6.50, however, the betting story was with the heavily backed Title. Almost $20,000 worth of bets at an average of $2.60 were written by TAB Sportsbet in the final minutes prior to jump, and after leading, the favourite weakened to finish unplaced.

Moonee Valley – Leslie Short Hiskens

The Tiger was unwanted in betting, which was in total contrast to his performance, as he and jockey Lisa Cropp raced away with the Leslie Short Hiskens at Moonee Valley.

Pass Me By and Dance With Her were the ones punters wanted but both finished out of the money.

Dance With Her met with a flood of money in the final minute before jump, with $15,000 @ $4.20 taken by TAB Sportsbet, however, it never looked likely to win the event.
