Timeform - Three Horses To Follow

Timeform highlight three horses to follow in the coming weeks off promising recent performances.

Tarquin wins the 2015 Pago Pago Stakes at Rosehill Picture: Racing and Sports

Tarquin - Caulfield, Saturday 16th April

Tarquin could only finish third in the Vobis Gold Reef at Caulfield but his effort was meritorious given the circumstance. He's reportedly being aimed at longer races over in Adelaide and was left flat-footed at the corner in a race that was controlled from the front by a good filly in Bengal Cat. The sit-and-sprint nature of that race hardly played into the hands of Tarquin but he was strong through the line and the form around his fast Mornington win prior has been working out well. He ran to a Timeform rating of 97 at Caulfield but his Pago Pago Stakes rating of 107 should still be within reach based on recent efforts.

Evacuation - Kembla Grange, Saturday 16th April

Kembla Grange almost certainly ended the day racing slower than it started, and so first use of the track probably flatters the performance of Evacuation against the clock, but it still stacks up as a very strong debut performance and one that could easily prove a springboard to the Queensland Winter Carnival. A Timeform rating of 100+ on debut should sell Evacuation short in the long term.

Prestwick - Sale, Tuesday 19th April

Prestwick returned off a short break at Sale on the back of a pair of one-run campaigns that saw him down the field and seemingly well off the boil. Prestwick was a fairly promising debut winner and pushed the smart Kinglike at start number two - so the talent is there. He was gelded prior to Sale and was up slightly in trip, a recipe that brought about a new peak rating of 91p - the clear best on offer at Sale on the day and a figure that puts him right in the thick of the action when inevitably pitched back into open handicaps on a Saturday where he belongs.
