Josh Parr has opened his win tally for the season aboard beautifully bred colt Superstition in the NJC Spring Carnival 3YO Maiden Plate (1200m) at Newcastle on Thursday.

A late starter in season 2013/14 after a sustaining a knee injury at Wyong on July 30, Josh Parr made it one win from one ride at Newcastle on Thursday aboard Superstition.
It was a clinical success for the pair who bounced to the front and ran the final 600m in the slick time of 33.96secs.
“He is a lovely horse,” Parr said.
“One out one back would have been my preferred position but he hit the ground running and just did it that easily I thought he could just stay in front.
“There seemed to be a couple of tips in the race but they couldn't beat the brilliance of us.
“He is actually a bit of a brat to do anything with but if we can work with him and get him to learn to be a racehorse, there is a lot of ability there.”
By More Than Ready, Superstition is out of Group 1 winning mare and a half to 2007 Sires' Produce Stakes winner Camarilla.
The colt showed promise during his short two start maiden prep and holds a nomination for the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas on October 12.
“He is a terrific little horse,” Stable Foreman Brad Widdup said.
“He is a bit of a lad though so it is good to get him away from home and this will do him real good.
“We didn't want to lead today. Josh just pushed forward expecting a couple to come from out wide but they didn't. He got his own way and he used his initiative but I think Pete [Snowden] would like him sitting in behind the leader somewhere.”
