Levi's Choice Finally Grabs Second Win

The news of the troubles of businessman Nathan Tinkler and fall-out for his racing and breeding operation Patinack Farm continue on a regular basis at the moment, but the winners continue unabated on the track with the latest Levi's Choice at Rosehill on Saturday.

Levi's Choice, trained by John Thompson at Randwick, had only one previous win to his record from 25 previous starts, and that was at Eagle Farm on May 12th 2010.

However on Saturday he put that all behind him in front of a good crowd of 13.351 when Christian Reith rode the five-year-old Galileo gelding to a 1 3/4L win in the $85,000, Bacardi – World's No 1 Rum Handicap (1900m).

Extra Zero (59kg) and Nash Rawiller led into the main straight and they were quickly gathered in by the $3.10 favourite Moriarty (IRE) (55kg) and Corey Brown at the 300m.

At that stage Moriarty looked the winner and unlikely to be challenged, but Christian Reith had other plans with Levi's Choice (54kg).

Coming down the centre of the track and inside Moriarty they not only caught the leader but went away for a solid 1 3/4L win.

Moriarty was a length ahead of Fromelles (54kg) and Nathan Berry with World Wide fourth.

The time was 1.57.71 on the Dead 4 track with the final 600m in 35.29. Levi's Choice paid $14.60 on TAB.com.au.

“He has never been short on ability and he has had a bit of bad luck in his racing,” said Andre Rabbett, foreman for Thompson.

“Drawn barrier one today and Christian put him in a good spot. He does not win them out of turn but hopefully he can put another one together,” he said.

“He has been beaten a few times and lost a bit of confidence but on Wednesday morning he worked the place down,” said Reith.

“He just needed the right run today and I was confident he would get the coin. Once he gets there he has a good kick. He has not seen the winning post for a while but hopefully he can continue now,” he added.
