Melksham Out To Prove She's A Super Lady

Sizzling Melbourne mare Lady Melksham is out to prove herself as one of the top spring females on Saturday when she lines up in the Group 2 Let's Elope Stakes at Flemington.

The John Sadler speedster will look to build on an impressive resuming win in the WW Cockram Stakes (1200m) and jockey Glen Boss has warned the four-year-old will only improve with the weather.

Lady Melksham's resuming win was on a bog track at Caulfield, but she should find some better footing this weekend, even with the patchy rain forecast for later this week.

Boss, who dons the Essendon Bombers colours whenever he jumps on the mare, predicted the best of Lady Melksham would come on a firm track.

“I can't wait to get her back on top of the ground, a couple of times on top of the ground her work at the track has been really electric,” the three-time Melbourne Cup winner said.

“She handles soft tracks really well as well, but she's got an amazing turn of foot when you get her on top of the ground.

“She's a really exciting filly. She's put together a really good record, and her only run where she got beat was down the straight and she was at the end of that prep where she probably wasn't as good.”

Boss linked up with the mare over the winter at Sandown where she settled back before powering home for a five-length romp.

Three weeks ago he settled her on the pace and held out a surging Le Societe in the shadows of the post.
