Successful Quest Shows His Promise

Nediym's Quest has validated trainer David Pfieffer's lofty opinion with a win at Newcastle, almost six months later than expected.

It was only the three-year-old's second career start after an autumn campaign severed by shin soreness, but his late dash in the De Bortoli Maiden Plate (1200m) suggested Pfieffer has been spot on about his promising colt.

Nediym's Quest was well supported on debut in the Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) back in March but pulled up sore after finishing more than 15 lengths off subsequent Golden Slipper winner Pierro.

Pfieffer spelled the son of General Nediym instantly, and after three solid trials in Sydney produced him at Newcastle this afternoon.

“He just fell in there and he's done a few things wrong but he got the job done,” Pfieffer said.

“Whatever he does today he'll keep improving. He's an immature bugger but I think he's going to have a bright future - we've just got to nurse him along.

“I've got a good opinion of him and to be truthful he might still be six months away from being his best but we'll just nurture him along and see where he goes from here.”

After settling midfield, Nediym's Quest rounded the bend under jockey Peter Robl but took almost the entire straight to hit top gear and reel in a very game Warbird.

Debutant Maximilian was ultra impressive in third spot.
