Heidilicious Put Down After Escape

Promising mare Heidilicious had to be put down at Flemington yesterday in an fatal mishap.

The mare, prepared by John Sadler at Flemington, broke free from her stall as she was being saddled for the Group 2 Blazer Stakes.

According to Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey the bridle broke and the mare galloped off, escaping into the horse float carpark.

By nature, the mare headed home to her stables near the course but ran into a fence and injured herself badly.

The mare had to be put down by the on-course vets.

Heidilicious, a daughter of Zabeel, had won two of her eight career runs and was regarded as a staying mare of the future having being narrowly beaten in the Group 1 Queensland Derby at her last run as a three-year-old.
