Bella Martini wins 2018 Kewney Stakes Group 2 $200,000 at Flemington (VIC), 1400m.
Bella Martini took her record to five wins (second stakes) in nine starts with a solid effort here. She held third (rails) from just after the start and maintained her position in behind the leader into the straight. Rider Dwayne Dunn pounced when the leader rolled away from the fence and drove the filly through to grab the lead at the 200m.
The challenges were many but she rallied and was doing as well as any at the line to hold on well by three quarters of a length.
Shokora tracked the winner to the 300m, got away from the fence with a split and when balanced ran home very well but perhaps too late for a nice second.
Palazzo Vecchio had few options in the straight, locked up next to the fence, getting clear late to rush into third when the race was over from Smart Coupe who could only battle to hold a distant fourth.
