In a surprise result the $41 chance More Energy scored a narrow win. He settled in an ideal spot, third on the rails, travelling nicely before challenging at the 200m.
He then did best, getting up at the post to score by a nose under his limit weight (53kg), his first stakes success in 36 starts.
The favourite Supply And Demand went to the front and set a reasonable tempo before picking up the pace from the 600m. He grabbed a break on turning for home, only to be caught on the post, putting up a good effort under his (58kg) top weight for the closest of seconds.
Liapari raced well back in eighth place until rounding the home turn and then made good ground in the centre of the track for a close-up third.
