Top weight and a wide draw (ten) were insufficient to stop Vega Magic from continuing where he left off his last campaign with a solid, fresh up victory here, his eleventh in 16 starts. Under Damien Oliver, Vega Magic jumped well yet was four and five wide early to stay in touch with the leaders then cruised up to be second, outside the leader's flank just prior to straightening.
Into the straight he balanced, then grabbed the lead inside the 200m, looking to clear out but had to withstand a late challenge, managing to hold out a tenacious Brave Smash, who was fourth last on the inner turning in and made a very strong run between runners, almost catching the winner for a terrific second.
Santa Ana Lane was midfield upon straightening, found room and was doing his best work at the line yet a distant third from Reldas, who ran on late to nab fourth.
