Morphettville races review - 20th May 2017

Jockey Mark Zahra and the four year old gelding Chase The Horizon combined for their fourth win in the 1200 metre opening race at Morphettville on Saturday.

Trained by Henry Dwyer Chase The Horizon came from the back half of the field with a strong run to win in a close finish.

A well thought out plan by trainer John McArdle paid off when I’ll Have A Bit took out the Group 3 National Stakes of 1200 metres.

Piloted by Craig Williams I’ll Have A Bit came from the rear of the field with a strong run and will now spelled ahead of a spring campaign.

A well judged ride on the part of Damien Thornton saw Time To Test win in the 2500 metre Port Adelaide Cup.

An injury prone six year old gelding, the Tony McEvoy trained Time To Test came from well back in the field to take the event and will go to Melbourne for a heat of the Banjo Patterson Series next month.

Mark Zahra brought up a double when he rode Ana Royale to a win in the 2350 metre Group 3 SA Fillies Classic.

Being under the care of Caulfield mentor Stewart Webb Ana Royale came from a worse than midfield position with a strong run to win.

Craig Williams continued his double success when he rode Exocet to record her fourth win from eleven starts in the 2019 metre listed Centaurea Stakes.

Mentored by Lee and Anthony Freedman, Exocet settled in a midfield position before working to the front late in the event.

Burning Front brought up his second success in a month and eighteenth win in a career spanning forty- eight starts when he took out the Group 3 R A Lee Stakes which was contested over 1600 metres.

Being under the care of Darren Weir and having the services of Brad Rawiller, Burning Front led all the way after fighting off a determined effort from Hooked.

The wizardry of jockey Craig Williams prevailed for the third time today when he rode Vega Magic to victory in the Group 1 Darley Goodwood Handicap which was contested over 1200 metres.

Vega Magic, having his first run for the Hayes Dabernig stable was in the first three throughout the event and will now be set for the ATC Everest at Randwick in October.

Craig Williams continued his magic when he brought up his fourth winner for the day when Fuhryk won the Group 3 1200 metre Proud Miss Stakes which was run over 1200 metres.

Bringing up a double for the Hayes, Hayes Dabernig stable Fuhryk settled in a midfield position before coming with a strong run late in the race under the urging of Williams.
