Morphettville Cup Day Races Review - 13/03/2017

Patrons were treated to an exciting finish when I Am Gypsy brought up win number six from thirty two starts in the opening race of 1050 metres at Morphettville on Cup Day Monday.

Being under the care of Gordon Richards and guided to victory by Jamie Kah I Am Gypsy was well placed.

Apprentice Matthew Poon said goodbye to SA racing on the eve of his return to Hong Kong in a positive way when he guided Tycoon Queen to a win in the 1200 metre second raced.

Prepared at Strathalbyn by Peter Moody Tycoon Queen came from a midfield position with a strong run in the straight.

A pick up ride at the expense of Ryan Maloney saw Noel Callow guide Undoubtable Miss to a win in the Magic Millions Adelaide Classic which was run over 1200 metres.

Prepared at Cranbourne by Robbie Griffiths Undoubtable Miss, a $90,000 Purchase at last year’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast, came from a rearward position with a strong run over the concluding stages.

The big crowd at Morphettville was treated to another close finish when Fully Stoked took out the 1200 metre fourth race.

Mentored by Phillip Stokes and ridden by apprentice Emily Finnegan Fully Stoked came from a midfield position.

Counter Pulse made it two wins in a fortnight when he took out the 1200 metre fifth race.

Co-mentored by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas and having the services of Clare Lindop Counter Pulse was on the pace throughout.

Casino Wizard would be one of the best sprinters going around in the state when he took out his second listed big race in a fortnight when he won the Matrice Stakes of 1200 metres.

Prepared at Mount Gambier by Lee Creek and having the services of Jason Holder Casino Wizard was well placed and probably will have his next major run in the Group 1 1200 metre Darley Goodwood Handicap on May 20.

Purchased as a jumper from the Williams Racing team eight months ago Annus Mirabilis won the biggest race of his career so far when he took out the 3200 metre UBET Group 2 Adelaide Cup giving rider Regan Bayliss the biggest weekend of his career and a great twentieth birthday present.

Trained at Caulfield by Stuart Webb Annus Mirabilis travelled three wide from the 1000 metre mark and slipped away in the straight and will now be set for the 3200 metre Sydney Cup on May 12.

Burning Front won his fifth race in a row in the listed C S Hayes Memorial Cup which was run over 1600 metres.

Prepared by Darren Weir and having the services of Damien Lane Burning Front was well placed.

Trainer Gordon Richards scored his second winner for the afternoon when his charge Beau Rivage won the 1600 metre final event.

Giving rider Jason Holder a double, Beau Rivage settled midfield and went on to win convincingly.
