I Am A Star wins 2017 Tab Kewney Stakes Group 2 $200,000 at Flemington (VIC) 3yoFillies, 1400m.
Favourite I Am A Star jumped with them from barrier four but was allowed to drop into a handy fourth by jockey Dean Yendall when they started the big Flemington bend. Passing the 800m I Am A Star improved to be one out and one back and was perfectly placed to challenge when they straightened. Yendall moved out another width and set after the leader. They took until the 100m before they claimed the lead but then had to withstand a very strong challenge, holding on by a head in a thrilling finish.
Ellicazoom sat a length back off the pace around the bend, still second into the home straight then had a great tussle with the winner all the way to the post for a gallant second.
Kenedna was third last at the 800m, threaded between runners when straightened and flew home late to grab third while Red Is The Rose led them from the jump and gave them all plenty to think about, not giving in until the 100m for a game fourth.
