Sacred Elixir wins 2016 Ladbrokes Caulfield Gneas Prel Group 3 $175,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 3yoColts & Geldings, 1400m.
New Zealand colt Sacred Elixir resumed after his J J Atkins Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) win at Eagle Farm in the winter to score a good first up win here. He settled in seventh place, improved (between runners) coming to the home turn, angled into clear running at the 300m and then finished too well to score quite impressively.
Revolving Door raced outside the leader (Yu Long Sheng Hui), went to the front at the 200m and was only headed nearing the post for a good second after running a bold race.
Wazzenme settled back in last place from his outside barrier (13), improved well (between runners) at the 300m, got a late split at the 100m and then ran on well for a close-up third.
Seaburge was back in tenth place, put in a strong run (wide out) in the straight and did well in finishing fourth, beaten less than a length while the favourite Saracino was fifth on the rails, was held up in the straight and made late ground for an unlucky fifth, beaten a length.
