Legless Veuve wins 2016 1000 Gneas Prel Tranquil Star Group 2 $200,000 at Caulfield (VIC) 3yoFillies, 1400m.
Legless Veuve progressed quickly from winning a 3YO fillies’ Maiden (1205m) at Sale on 11 September to taking out this Group Two race at only her fourth race start. She was quickly away and then settled nicely behind the leader (Whispering Brook) from her good barrier (2). She moved up to that filly nearing the home turn, went to the front at the 200m and then fought back gamely for a very smart win.
La Luna Rossa raced in seventh place, on the rails, went between runners at the home turn, eased deeper and into clear running at the 300m and then ran on really well for a good second.
Sword Of Light had a nice trip in fifth place on the rails from her inside barrier (1), got through to third at the 200m and fought on well to hold that position to the post.
The favourite Whispering Brook was quickly away from her wide barrier (10) and worked before crossing to the lead at the 1000m. She then led the field until nearing the 200m but tired after working to find the lead to finish (2.2 lengths) seventh.
