My Country wins 2016 James Boag’s Lancaster Stakes Listed $100,000 at Eagle Farm (QLD) 2yoFillies, 1200m.
Peter and Paul Snowden-trained filly My Country stepped up quickly after two wins on NSW provincial tracks in three prior starts to taking out this Listed race in good style. She began quickly and after leading early on, eased to race fourth place on the rails before easing across heels and into clear running at the 200m. She then challenged at the 100m and finished a bit too well to score.
The favourite Invincibella settled in fifth place, between runners, before making a move to challenge nearing the home turn. She got to a narrow lead at the 200m and then fought gamely for a good second.
Godolophin-raced filly Nonpareil went back from her wide barrier (13) and settled in third last place in the 15-horse field. She commenced a wide move at the 600m, got to fifth at the 200m and kept making ground for third putting up a promising effort at only her fourth race start.
Her stablemate Chipanda was also well back until nearing the home turn. She eased deeper on straightening and then continued to put in a strong finish, running on well to take a good (1.7 lengths) fourth.
