The top weight (59kg) Rudy, who was having his fifth run this preparation, settled near last in the 13-horse field from his wide barrier (11), behind a fast pace (first 1000m 58.94). He improved, wide with cover, nearing the 600m before going deep but was still well back on straightening. He then came with a strong late run to grab a dead-heat result for first in the last few strides.
Favourite Jumbo Prince was nicely placed in fifth before getting along the rails nearing the home turn to be in second place on straightening. He got to front at the 100m and was only caught right on the post for retain a dead-heat result for first.
Heart Of A Warrior went to the front, set a strong tempo and did well in holding on for third.
