Royal Tithe wins 2016 Jaguar Xj Ken Russell Memorial Group 3 $125,000 at Gold Coast (QLD) 2yo, 1200m.
Consistent Sunshine Coast-trained filly Royal Tithe successfully stepped up in class to score a good win in this Group Three race. She was ridden quietly from her wide barrier (9) and settled back in seventh place, behind a quick tempo (first 600m 34.61). She was still well back at the home turn but she sprinted quickly to challenge at the 100m and finished a bit too well for a smart win.
Oink settled back in sixth place, one off the rails, before improving nearing the home turn. He challenged at the 100m and then fought well for a good second.
The favourite Impending did not show much early pace and was a long way back in ninth place until the home turn. He unsuccessfully looked for a run between runners at the 200m, before switching deep at the 100m and he came with a late run for an unlucky third.
