Precious Gem wins 2016 Troa Anniversary Vase Listed $120,000 at Caulfield (VIC), 1400m.
From out wide (barrier 14) Precious Gem got away quite well yet still drifted to be fourth last on settling. Down the side she lost a further place and was three wide but approaching the last corner began to eat up the ground which saw her fourth (wide out) passing the 300m.
Leader, Sistine Demon had them in trouble at the 200m but Precious Gem grabbed him by the 100m and then drove away to win well. Sistine Demon led them down the side and into the straight, broke clear at the 200m and he looked the winner until Precious Gem chimed in, yet held on gamely for second at the line.
Enquare was worse than midfield and wide around the last corner then threaded through under Precious Gem and kept up a solid finish for third, just failing to grab Sistine Demon at the post.
