Perfect Fit wins 2016 Westbury Classic Group 2 NZ$100,000 at Ellerslie (NZ) Fillies & Mares, 1400m.
Perfect Fit began well from her handy draw of four to be right with the pace early and settled just off the rail behind leader In Style, who had an easy time in front. Past the 600m, Perfect Fit inched closer and upon straightening gathered in In Style and then surged clear inside the 200m and gave nothing a chance to the line for a clear and easy win despite Soubrettes' late burst.
Soubrettes was last at the 1000m and still last just before the last corner but only six lengths off the pace. She pulled out to be widest of the field and really began to motor passing the 200m, but it was much too late yet her finishing burst was the feature of the race.
Tavy settled just in front of Soubrettes in second last, swung wide around the corner and ran on strongly in the middle of the track for a good third.
