Upham wins 2015 Mullins Lawyers Grand Prix Stk Group 3 $150,000 at Doomben (QLD) 3yo, 2020m.
Kerrin McEvoy did well in the early stages to settle Upham in fifth place, one off the rails, after starting from barrier 11. He then got a nice run between runners at the 600m, challenged on straightening, went to the front at the 100m and drew clear to win well. It was a good effort and an excellent ride by McEvoy. Redoutable Heart was prominent in the early stages before easing to race in fifth place on the rails. He took an inside run at the 200m, went to second at the 50m and fought back to just retain second.
Master Of Arts settled in a nice spot, fifth on the rails but he was shuffled back a bit at the 500m. He was blocked on straightening, switched out on passing the 200m and came with a late run to take second, looking unlucky. He is a lightly raced but promising stayer with a good future.
Favourite Sadler's Lake was forced to work in the early stages from his outside barrier (16) before getting to the lead approaching the 1400m. He then steadied the pace but was pressured from the 600m and he did well to hold on for (1.8 lengths) fifth at the finish, considering his difficult trip.
