ATLANTE wins 2014 Drummond Golf Stakes Listed $120000 at Moonee Valley (VIC) 1200m
The NZ 2000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m), Atlante resumed here for new trainers Team Hawkes to score a narrow but good first up win. He settled fourth on the rails from his good barrier (2). He got a split on turning for home, challenged at the 100m and fought gamely to win in photo.
The favourite Trust In A Gust began well from his wide barrier (12) and eased to settled midfield but was still caught wide. He improved (deep) from the 600m, challenged at the home turn and fought on particularly well for second, his difficult barrier proving costly.
Lucky Hussler was midfield between runners before switching wide nearing the home turn. He kept responding well in the straight, running on for a close-up third. Solsay raced outside the leader (Spirits Dance), hit the front on straightening then held on for (1.5 lengths) fourth while Lion Of Belfort was a handy sixth between runners to the turn and battled on for a first-up (2.3 lengths) fifth.
