Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes, October 12 - Caulfield

Sea Moon ground home a win in the Herbert Power atoning for last week's protest loss in the Bart Cummings.

Sea Moon raced outside the leader (Oasis Bloom) at a moderate tempo until passing the 600m point.

Hugh Bowman then urged the import to improve but he took a while to wind-up in the sprint home with his 59.5kg top weight. He got the lead passing the 100m and showed his stamina to draw clear for a three-quarter length win, running a good trial for bigger Spring Carnival goals.

The mare Oasis Bloom went straight to the lead, set an average pace and fought gamely all the way in the straight for a good second.

The Irish stayer Simenon was sixth one off the rails before moving up three wide from the 600m point. He challenged strongly on straightening and kept fighting on for a good third being unsuited by the sprint home tactics of the race. This dour stayer also looks on target for the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) and will appreciate getting to the longer 3200m distance.

Let’s Make Adeal dipped and almost fell shortly near the winning post on the first occasion. She then recovered to race in fifth place on the rails and kept battling on nicely in the straight for a sound fourth while French imported stayer Kesampour raced behind the leader to the turn and seemed to have every chance before finishing fifth, beaten just over two lengths.
