It is Derby day at Morphettville and we just have to have a play in the big one.
We were on Declarationofheart to do the Mummify preparation of running in the Sydney Derby then going into the Chairman’s against lesser horses.
The old boy was able to do that then win the SA Derby pretty easily and we are going to say another Freedman 3yo can follow on to G1 success.
Declarationofheart would have been stiff not to take the Chairman’s. He was in behind the lead group and just needed a run but was shuffled back coming to the 600m.
But once he got clear, he wound up and simply outstayed them. With more momentum, he wins by a widening three lengths.
Once again he draws well to be safely tucked away and just needs that out around 800m to go to let him build momentum.
A lot of his main rivals are drawn double figures so will need to use some petrol with that short run to the first turn or go back and then he has track position on them.
Some value can also be found in the shape of Muswellbrook running in the Adelaide Guineas.
The Lindsay Park three year old has had two runs back and finished them off nicely.
However a few things work in his favour for Saturday. The first is adding D Oliver. In his current form, things might just go his way as they did last week.
The son of Denman also draws a lovely soft gate to not have to get so far back. That could be important if the track is softer and he won a Mornington Sires a year back on that surface.
Reckon the mile is his true go in life. He was close in a Fernhill and Stutt Stakes and so we can have an each way play on him.
