Best From The West: Ascot – 27th April 2019

One of the last Ascot meetings before we switch to Belmont with seven races but they have had a lot of racing of late.

It is usually good practice to be backing William Pike in the last and we’ll go down that road again this week with New Age chasing back to back wins.

She won over this course and distance two weeks ago and still seems well off even with 60kg.

Her only failure this campaign was when tried out beyond the mile and a quarter. Maybe they’ve decided she is a miler at most.

You just have to like horses with excellent strike rates as they want to win and the trainer places them well too.

We may just get decent odds again.

In the race prior, the Hannans Handicap winner Reykjavik can’t help but run well again.

He had a break after taking the Kalgoorlie feature race and then won the rich Mungrup Sprint a month ago.

After trialling again, he’s found a competitive race but the claim for Brodie Kirby has him in very nicely.

The horse simply doesn’t know how to run a bad one. Perhaps the only trouble could be barrier one but he has been able to sit on speed before so this would be a good time again.
