Brisbane Best - Doomben - October 6

Plenty of rain is forecast around the Brisbane area in the next two days and expecting them to race on a wet track.

Doomben Picture: Racing and Sports

There was a lot to like about the returning effort of Pizonie who lines up in the Three-year-old handicap over 1200m, having no luck when caught wide last start over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast.

The Tony Gollan-trained runner still managed to finish third to Defence Missile, beaten under a length and he is likely to appreciate the step up to 1200m today.

Pizonie finished last campaign with a handy fifth to Granny Red Shoes in Listed company and he also meets Defence Missile one kilo better at the weights even after the claim for Clayton Gallagher.

Jeff Lloyd remains on board Pizonie and from the barrier he should be able to push forward and settle just off the leader.

At the odds of $4 at the moment happy to play Pizonie who certainly looks to have ability and is likely to improve off his first up effort.

The race prior shapes up as a very interesting sprint race over 1050m and despite the rain making it a tougher task Misery looks a solid each way bet.

The Stuart Kendrick-trained runner was not far behind Tactical Advantage three back before winning on a slow track over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast two back.

Run down in the final stride when runner up to Volkoff last start, Misery returns to Doomben where he has won previously and he has also shown good form on slow tracks previously.

The lightly raced six-year-old certainly comes up against a handy field but he will push forward from barrier 2 and take plenty of running down at the handy current price of $6.

Good luck.
