Best From The West - January 20

The Tom Widdleson trained Princess Zelda has been rock solid in both starts to begin this preparation and appears well placed to break through in the opener at Ascot on Saturday.

While yet to win from seven starts, Princess Zelda looks to have turned the corner this preparation, having caught the eye in both runs.

First up she closed off very well behind Lady Le Jean, before finishing second behind the progressive How To Fly at Bunbury last start.

She now appears set to peak racing third up and should be aided by the slight step up in trip.

In a race lacking depth, she rates highly on her last start effort and looks to only have to repeat that level of performance to be right in the finish again.

From the inside draw she is also likely to settle closer to the speed and with Jason Brown sticking aboard, she should prove very hard to beat.

The early odds of $2.60 is more than fair and expect her to start shorter come start time.

The Paul Jordan trained Senso was very good against the pattern of the day last start and presents good each-way value in the fifth event.

On a day dominated by the on-pacers, Senso really caught the eye late when charging home into fourth behind Red Publisher.

Although unable to bring up the hat-trick, his performance held plenty of merit and he is simply flying.

The step up to 1500m should suit and watch for him charging home into the finish, on his last start performance he is certainly worth an each-way ticket.
