Best From The West - December 2

The Masters continues at Ascot on Saturday with the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes the key highlight on the eight race card.

The Team Williams trained State Solicitor holds sway in the market, however the Chris Gangemi trained Rock Magic will no doubt make his presence felt.

Sent over to the East, Rock Magic far from disgraced himself when finishing fourth in the Moir [1000m], before placing in the Schillaci [1100m] and was only beaten 3.6L in the Darley Classic [1200m].

On that occasion Rock Magic was caught on the wrong part of the track and closed off well behind Redzel- the best sprinter in the country.

While coming up short against the best of the best, his record at home is second to none.

Rock Magic hasn't missed the money in Perth since January 2016, during that time he notched up four wins and six minor placings from 10 starts.

By all reports he has travelled back well and was only narrowly beaten in this race last year, a far stronger renewal to what he faces on Saturday.

No surprise to see State Solicitor come up favourite, however would rather side with Rock Magic on the each-way.

The Tony Scally trained River Dance couldn't have been more impressive in his return at Geraldton and appears well placed to go back to back in the sixth event.

A winner of three of his four starts since joining Scally's care, River Dance has continued to make impressive rating spikes and is more than capable of overcoming the wide draw.

Leading rider Damien Oliver legs aboard and if able to springboard off his first up win, he should have too much in the locker for his rivals.
