No French Racing on Thursday

If you wondered why here's the reason.

The French Government has proposed increasing the betting tax which means less will flow down to the actual racing world and would inevitably lead to lower prize money and potentially loss of jobs.

The Government should know better than to mess with the racing fraternity – there are some powerful voices amongst them and on Thursday a huge crowd – estimated at over 1000 – flooded the streets in protest.  The crowd included trainers, jockeys, stablehands, racing officials from all codes and probably some owners too.

The message should have got through to the Government and hopefully the crisis can be averted.
