A deluge of bad weather has hit the UK in the last twenty-four, which means field sizes have drastically reduced across the meetings. We bring you one selection from a heavy Haydock…
The aptly-named Storm Lady appears to be the bet of the day, available at 10/3 for the seven-furlong Sky Bet Club EBF Fillies' Novice Stakes (14:15). The Richard Fahey-trained filly made a pleasing debut at Leicester when four-and-a-half length third behind the exciting Formal, who races in the Group 3 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket on Friday. It was heavy rain at Leicester and the Zoustar filly showed signs of inexperience in the early stages when outpaced, before getting the hang of things in the closing furlong, where she ran on to collect third.
She appeared to have no problems with the official going description of soft and the heavy ground at Haydock is unlikely to pose many problems – dam Danehill Revival, a daughter of Pivotal, was also a winner over seven furlongs on soft ground. The Richard Fahey yard have not been in great order but a win and a placing on Wednesday, boosting the strike rate to 7% for the last fourteen days, suggests that their fortunes are on the turn and this could be another key winner.
