Melbourne Cup Form & Stats Preview

Below is the form of all 24 Acceptors in the Cup and some statistics thrown in

Point of interest is that the last two quinellas are all running in the 2013 Cup.

1. Dunaden

Form - Didn’t look to measure up to an Arc campaign so sent back to his favourite hunting ground.

Stat - Only one horse Peter Pan (32/34) has won non-consecutive Cups.

2. Green Moon

Form - Ran in a very similar fashion in the Cox Plate last year before taking the Cup.

Stat - Makybe Diva was the most recent horse to win more than one Cup in 2005.

3. Red Cadeaux

Form - An international jetsetter since running here in 2012, racing well in six different countries.

Stat - Beaten in the closest finish in Cup history by Dunaden in 2011.

4. Sea Moon

Form - Top former English horse who has come good with racing for Lloyd Williams.

Stat - For a non G1 winner, he must carry more weight than any Cup winner since 1994 bar Makybe Diva.

5. Brown Panther

Form - Good English staying form and in the 2011 English St Leger finished in between Masked Marvel, Sea Moon and Seville.

Stat - Owned by great English footballer Michael Owen.

6. Fiorente

Form - Not run a bad race in his six Australian runs and was fantastic at Moonee Valley.

Stat - Green Moon ran in the Memsie, Dato Tan Chin Nam, Turnbull and Cox Plate before winning. Same prep here.

7. Foreteller

Form - Was a top run behind Atlantic Jewel in the Caulfield Stks and launched late in the Cox Plate.

Stat - Only four horses in nearly 30 years have won the Makybe Diva Stks and won another race that Spring.

8. Dandino

Form - Flashed home to run second in the Caulfield Cup under 56.5kg.

Stat - Last horse to actually run in a Caulfield Cup and win the Melbourne Cup was Viewed in 2008.

9. Ethiopia

Form - Former AJC Derby winner and that is his only win.

Stat - Was tailed off last in the Cup last year.

10. Fawkner

Form - Caulfield Cup winner who finished his race off in style. Can he run the trip?

Stat - Last horse to do the Cups double was Ethereal in 2001.

11. Mourayan

Form - Had only three runs leading into the Cup which would be one of the lightest ever for an Australian based horse.

Stat - Last Sydney Cup winner to taste success was Makybe Diva in 2004. Before that is was Carbine in 1890.

12. Seville

Form - Metropolitan Hcp win was very stout. Fought on gamely in the Cox Plate.

Stat - Was in the betting in the 2011 Epsom Derby behind Pour Moi.

13. Super Cool

Form - Australian Cup winner here who has slowly improved this preparation.

Stat - Fastnet Rock has not sired a winner beyond a mile 2600m.

14. Masked Marvel

Form - Can do a few things wrong and unsuited at WFA in the Cox Plate.

Stat - One of six in the race for Lloyd Williams.

15. Mount Athos

Form - Ran his best race this season in the March Stakes under massive weight.

Stat - Was near favourite in the 2012 Cup. Last horse to be defeated and come back to win a Cup was Brew in 2000.

16. Royal Empire

Form - Progressive four year old who easily won the Geoffrey Freer at Newbury.

Stat - Godolphin have never won the Cup. They were placed with Crime Scene, Beekeeper, Give The Slip & Central Park.

17. Voleuse De Coeurs

Form - Thrashed a field of 10 in the Irish St Leger including Red Cadeaux.

Stat - Vintage Crop won the Leger on his way to the 1993 Cup.

18. Hawkspur

Form - Ran favourite in the Caulfield Cup and had little luck going back at the start.

Stat - No Queensland Derby winner has ever won the Melbourne Cup.

19. Simenon

Form - Form this English season included a close second in the Ascot Gold Cup.

Stat - Has gone jumping before and won twice at the Royal Ascot meeting in 2012.

20. Ibicenco

Form - Geelong Cup was solid and is a two mile winner of the Sandown Cup last Spring.

Stat - Geelong Cup has a fantastic recent record with three winners (Media Puzzle, Americain & Dunaden) and numerous placegetters.

21. Verema

Form - French mare who has tremendous European form from the same trainer as Americain.

Stat - The Kergorlay was the race which produced both Americain and Dunaden.

22. Dear Demi

Form - Outstanding runs in the Underwood Stks and Caulfield Cup when running up the fence and same in the Mackinnon.

Stat - Top Flemington runs including her Oaks win last year.

23. Tres Blue

Form - Won a G2 in France last start which included the top horse Cirrus Des Aigles.

Stat - For an ex-French horse, has never run beyond 2500m.

24. Ruscello

Form - Top, tough, on pace effort to win the Cup day lead up race.

Stat - Lexus form has been excellent over recent years as guide to the Melbourne Cup (Kelinni, Maluckyday, Shocking, Maybe Better, Brew)
