Damp track decimates Newbury fields

There were some serious withdrawals from the Newbury feature races o Saturday and the results were reflective of this.

The John Porter was reduced to five runners and Harris Tweed, who started favourite after the withdrawal of Fiorente, won from Allied Powers at 7/1. Arctic Cosmos was not suited by the conditions and best forget that run.

The Fred Darling however saw the nice filly Moonstone Magic confirm her good showing on debut with a good win here over Radio Gaga and Electrelane, both of whom were at 10/1.

The Greenham saw a good performance from Caspar Neischker with a surprise second from Boomerang Bob at 20/1 and Bronterre third. Top Offer and Tales of Grimm were both scratched.

Much more lively proceedings in Ayr with the Scottish Grand National when Merigo became the first horse to win the race twice not in consecutive years. It was again a tight finish with Aurora's Encore doing everything to try and catch the winner and King Fonteyn finished third. Quentins Collonges made a few too many mistakes and was pulled up as were quite a few others including early favourite Harry The Viking.
